When Old Milwaukee Subbed the Swedish Bikini Team in for Lobster

Posted by | March 26, 2009 | Great Moments in Beer, Video

Great moments in beer is a new feature on Beer Jobs dot org, and as far as breaking in a new category goes, it “doesn’t get much better than this.”  The early 80’s were a great time for beer advertisements on television, we were still riding the tide of not caring about political correctness.

I doubt Old Milwaukee was actually the first beer company to use scantily clad women to sell beer, but they sure knew how to take their existing formula and spice it up a little bit.  Wonder which ad generated more beer sales?

Just when they thought things couldn’t get any better…   (hit the jump for the Swedish Bikini team)

Before this next clip, I thought a clambake with the boys was pretty cool. But I was proven wrong:

A fishing trip with the boys where you juggle huge chunks of gold, meet a boatload of Swedish bikini models, and miraculously get showered with parachuting 6 packs?  Old Milwaukee, you really took it to the next level.

    Hey Guys,(beer advertising executives)
Hello, it’s 2011…time to wake up from the cave. Could you all muster up some original thoughts and content for your ads? Like, maybe something normal or pure! Could you STOP your annoying ads that promote sleazy sexism towards women. I will not buy any beer from your companies that profit from expolitation of women in promotions for parties, mansions, or advertizing like it of any sort.
Promote responsible, proper enjoyment that is respectful to all customers, not creeps getting off at the respect of others. STOP SICK ADVERTISING!
